Three men were arrested in the early morning hours of Sunday, January 22, 2012, on suspicion of breaking into the Southern California Edison facility in Moorpark, California, and stealing approximately $25,000 worth of copper from the plant. The Southern California Edison facility is located at 5027 Gabbert Road, near Highway 118. The suspects in this theft include Jeffrey Denuccio, 23, of Saugus, Robert Meskill, 31, of Sunland, and Paul Kornish, 41, of Sun Valley.
According to authorities, Moorpark police detectives were conducting surveillance at the facility when, at approximately 3:30 a.m. on Sunday morning, they witnessed three people cut through the fence and enter the property. Ninety minutes later, police saw the suspects leave the building with wiring and get into a van. The suspects were immediately stopped by Moorpark police, at which time the police saw the stolen copper in the vehicle.
Copper and tools had been stolen from the Southern California Edison facility at least six times in the past two months. The additional theft that occurred on Sunday brought the total estimate for the company’s loss to over $100,000.
According to jail records, all three men were booked in the Ventura County jail on suspicion of burglary and conspiracy. Both Meskill and Kornish were also booked on parole holds; they are not eligible for bail.
