Police have identified a body found last week in a fire as that of a popular LA restaurant worker. The circumstances surrounding the death are suspicious, but still mostly unknown.
Police responded to reports of a brush fire at about 4:00 a.m. on July 15, only to find a charred body in the flames. The fire was off the northbound side of Route 101 on the Nojoqui Grade, outside of Santa Barbara.
The body was revealed today in a press conference to be forty-eight-year-old Bernardo Alvarez, a popular restaurant worker from LA. The body was identified through independent DNA testing.
Alvarez was last seen leaving his job at the Greystoke Restaurant on Ventura Boulevard on the night of July 14th. Alvarez was regarded as a reliable employee, having never missed a day of work in ten years.
Investigators believe Alvarez was killed in Los Angeles County and his body was dumped and burned in Santa Barbara, though the details and possible motives are still unknown.
The LAPD and Santa Barbara County investigators are asking anyone with information about the case to call them at (818) 374-7725.
Our sympathies go out to Mr. Alvarez's loved ones, and we hope the details of the case become clearer in the coming days.
