A fatal shooting in Fillmore has now been classified as a homicide, according to the Ventura County Sherrif's Department. The shooting occurred around 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, in the 300 block of Bard Street in Fillmore.
Police responded to a report that a man had been shot on Saturday, finding twenty-four-year-old Christian Giusti of Fillmore dead at the scene. The cause of death was a shotgun wound to the chest.
Giusti had known gang affiliations, and had most recently been arrested in September 2009 for possession of a handgun. He pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm by a felon, in violation of his probation. He was due back in court last week, but failed to appear.
It is unknown whether the shooting was related to recent gang activity, but given Giusti's past, it is likely. Police have conducted a thorough search for suspects, but no one has yet been found.
Our sympathies go out to all those affected in this shooting. We wish Ventura police luck as they continue to search for suspects.
