How a Felony Conviction Can Impact Your Employment Prospects

A felony conviction can have a dramatic impact on your career prospects. Many employers may be reluctant to hire an ex-felon for positions involving finance or personnel management, so you may be forced to start all over, at the bottom of the career ladder, with a low-paying job, to get your career in gear once again.

• Get your G.E.D./high school equivalency diploma, or start or complete your college education or vocational training by distance learning while still imprisoned. This is excellent preparation if you have been away from the world for an extended period of time.
• Get the offense expunged from your record. If the offense is removed from your record, you can legally and ethically answer "no" to conviction questions on job applications.
• Start your own lawn maintenance or landscaping firm. Begin a house painting/subcontracting business. You're limited only by your imagination here.
